What are brass fittings?
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It machines cleanly, resists rust and seals well on threads, so it is a favourite for small-bore water, gas and compressed air connections. Most brass fittings in Kenya use BSP threads.
Brass fittings come in male and female forms. A hex nipple has male threads at both ends, while a socket has female threads. A reducing bush steps one thread size down to a smaller one, which lets you connect parts of different sizes neatly.
How to choose brass fittings
- Check whether you need male or female threads at each end.
- Confirm the thread size and type, as most local fittings use BSP.
- Use fittings rated for gas on LPG and lab gas lines, then leak-test with soapy water.
- Seal threads with PTFE tape or a gas-approved sealant as appropriate.
- Hold the fitting with a spanner on its hex, not on the pipe, while tightening.
- Use a reducing bush or reducing socket to join two different thread sizes.

Frequently asked questions
What are brass fittings used for?
They connect water, gas and air lines, especially at taps, valves, meters, gauges and appliances.
What sizes of brass fittings do you stock?
Our range runs from 1/4 inch up to 1 inch, depending on the fitting. Use the size buttons on each page.
What is a brass hex nipple?
It is a short fitting with male threads at both ends and a hexagon in the middle for a spanner.
What is a reducing bush?
A reducing bush has a larger male thread outside and a smaller female thread inside, so it steps down the size.
Can brass fittings be used for gas?
Yes, brass is widely used on gas lines. Use fittings suitable for gas and always test the joints for leaks.
Do brass fittings rust?
Brass does not rust like steel. In some aggressive waters, however, it can lose zinc over time, which is called dezincification.
Do you deliver brass fittings outside Nairobi?
We supply customers across Kenya, and we also serve buyers in Uganda and Tanzania. Delivery options come with the quote.
