What are flexible pipes and hoses used for?

Flexible connectors join equipment where rigid pipe would be hard to align or would pass on vibration. Braided stainless flexible pipes connect taps, heaters and pumps, while expansion bellows absorb the growth of hot pipes and the shake of running machines. Rubber joints do a similar job on larger water lines.

Hoses move water, air or fuel where you need to reposition the line. Hose nipples and joints connect hoses to each other or to pipes, and sprinklers spread water over lawns and crops. Together, they finish the job that pipes and fittings start.

How to choose flexible pipes and hoses

  • Match the end connections and thread sizes to the equipment you are connecting.
  • Check the pressure and temperature rating, especially on hot water and pump lines.
  • Use expansion bellows where pipes heat up or machines vibrate.
  • Do not twist braided flexible pipes during installation, as this shortens their life.
  • Choose hose material to suit water, air or fuel, since each needs a compatible inner layer.
  • Secure hoses on hose nipples with suitable clamps.

Applications of flexible pipes and hoses

  1. Water heater connections. Linking geysers to pipework with braided flexible pipes.
  2. Pump connections. Reducing vibration at pump inlets and outlets.
  3. Boiler and steam lines. Absorbing thermal growth with expansion bellows.
  4. HVAC chilled water. Isolating vibration from chillers and pumps.
  5. Garden watering. Watering lawns and gardens with hoses and sprinklers.
  6. Landscaping. Installing pop up sprinklers in lawns and parks.
  7. Pump suction. Drawing water from tanks and rivers with suction hose.
  8. Compressed air tools. Supplying air through PU tube and quick couplings.
  9. Washing bays. Cleaning vehicles and floors with hose and nipples.
  10. Temporary connections. Making quick, movable water connections on site.
