A PE cap seals the open end of a polyethylene pipe. It keeps water in and dirt out.
Fit one at the end of farm and irrigation lines. In addition, use caps to seal pipe ends during pressure tests.
What is a PE cap?
An HDPE end cap closes the open end of a polyethylene pipe. It stops flow at a dead end and keeps dirt out of a line that will be extended later.
Caps come as compression caps, which screw on with an O-ring, or fusion caps, which are welded on. Both resist corrosion underground.

Key terms explained
- HDPE
- High-density polyethylene, a tough, flexible plastic used for water and gas pipes.
- PE100 and PE80
- Grades of polyethylene. PE100 is stronger, so pipes can have thinner walls for the same pressure.
- PN rating
- Pressure Nominal, the working pressure in bar, such as PN10 or PN16.
- SDR
- Standard Dimension Ratio: outside diameter divided by wall thickness. A lower SDR means a thicker, stronger wall.
- Butt fusion
- Joining two HDPE pipe ends by heating them and pressing them together.
- Compression fitting
- A fitting that seals on the pipe with a nut, split ring and rubber O-ring, with no heat needed.
Features and benefits
- Seals the end of HDPE pipe.
- Compression or fusion types.
- Removable compression caps allow later extension.
- Corrosion-free body.

Applications of a PE cap
- Dead ends. Closes the end of a water main.
- Future extensions. Seals a line that will be extended later.
- Pressure testing. Closes pipe ends during testing.
- Irrigation laterals. Closes the ends of laterals and allows flushing.
- Flushing points. Allows a line to be opened and flushed.
- Temporary site lines. Closes temporary water lines.
- Pipe storage. Keeps dirt and insects out of stored pipe.
- Repairs. Closes a cut line while repairs continue.
How to choose and install
- Match the cap to the pipe OD in mm.
- Use a compression cap where you may extend the line.
- Anchor caps on large mains, because pressure pushes on the end.
- Check the O-ring is seated before tightening.

Frequently asked questions
Is a PE cap the same as an end cap?
Yes. Both names describe a fitting that closes a pipe end.
What details do you need to quote HDPE end caps?
Tell us the size in mm or inches, the pressure rating (PN) and the quantity. A photo of the old part, a nameplate or a drawing also helps. Then call or WhatsApp 0726 086 895, or use the quote form on this page.
Do you deliver HDPE end caps outside Nairobi?
Yes. We supply customers across Kenya, and we also serve buyers in Uganda and Tanzania. Delivery or courier arrangements are agreed when you confirm the order.
How much does a HDPE end cap cost in Kenya?
The price depends on the size, the pressure rating and the quantity. Therefore, send your list with a quote request and we will reply with current figures.
Can HDPE end caps be buried?
Yes. HDPE is well suited to burial. Bed it in sand or fine soil and keep sharp stones away.
Do HDPE end caps resist sunlight?
Black HDPE contains carbon black, which protects it from UV. Even so, burying or shading pipe extends its life.
Can an HDPE end cap be removed later?
Compression caps can. Fusion caps must be cut off.
Does a capped main need anchoring?
Large mains do, because water pressure pushes on the cap. Follow your design.
Why does an end cap leak?
The pipe end may be uncut or not fully inserted, or the O-ring is damaged.
