What are pipe flanges?
A pipe flange is a ring bolted to another flange, valve or pump, with a gasket between them. Flanges let a line be opened for maintenance without cutting the pipe.
Flanges are made to a standard and pressure rating. PN16 follows European dimensions; Class 150 and Class 300 follow American ASME dimensions. Therefore, both flanges at a joint must share the same standard, rating and size.
